What do you do when your heavyweight champion refuses to defend his title against your “number one contender” and is the subject of ongoing juicing rumors?

When your “number one contender” is the top-ranked MMA fighter in the world and he’s holding your company hostage for more money before he consents to fight again?

Simple. Sign Andrei Arlovski.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski is back in the game after signing a multi-fight, 16-month contract with Strikeforce and is set to take on former EliteXC champion Antonio “Big Foot” Silva on May 15 in St. Louis, Missouri.

In Arlovski’s first go-round with the promotion, Brett Rogers walloped the 31-year-old Belarusian with a 22-second knockout victory. He has been inactive in MMA since, but did box an exhibition against former heavyweight contender Fres Oquendo in Miami.

Sources say Arlovski plans to train at Greg Jackson’s MMA Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He visited the camp last November. The Jackson gyms are the training centers for Rashad Evans, Nate Marquardt and Shane Carwin.

Arlovski’s last wins came in July 2008 when he knocked out Ben Rothwell in the third-round and turned in a second-round knockout of former IFL champion Roy Nelson on CBS in October of 2008. Arlovski then fought No. 1 ranked MMA heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko, who knocked him out with a thunderous overhand right as he attempted a flying knee late in the first round.

Arlovski was 11-4 in the UFC between 2000-2008 and had victories against Vladimir Matyushenko, Tim Sylvia, Paul Buentello, Marcio Cruz, and Fabricio Werdum. His losses in the Octagon came to Pedro Rizzo, Ricco Rodriguez and twice to Tim Sylvia.
