James Toney Talks About His Possible UFC Opponents
“I want Brock Lesnar,” Toney said. “I’m the heavyweight champion of the world vs. the UFC champion. That’d be a hell of a match.”
Toney also had a list of other MMA stars he’d be willing to face.
“Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, or whatever his name is,” Toney said. “It doesn’t matter. I’m not a sideshow. This is the real deal here.”
Couture and Lesnar don’t have fights coming up on the immediate horizon, but it seems unlikely the UFC would start Toney out at that level of competition.
Toney’s most recent fight was a September 2009 TKO win over Matthew Greer, and “Lights Out” weighed in at 217 pounds.
Toney says it’s high time MMA fighters develop more respect for boxers, and he sees himself as the man to earn that respect for his former sport.
“I never said nothing less about the sport,” Toney said. “But when you come disrespect the man who’s 20 years deep and has won 12 different title in six different weight divisions and say MMA sport is better boxing, you got to be kidding me.”
