Fighter Bonuses, Gate and Fight Awards From WEC 47
World Extreme Cagefighting handed out $10,000 “Fight of the Night” bonuses for the shocking results of WEC 47 last night.
- Joseph Benavidez was awarded $10,000 for “Submission of the Night”.
- Anthony Pettis was awarded $10,000 for “Knockout of the Night”.
- Leonard Garcia and George Roop were awarded $10,000 for “Fight of the Night” for their split decision draw.
WEC officials said the event drew an attendance of 8,345. General Manager Reed Harris said it marked the fifth best gate for the WEC and the best for the promotion outside of California.
WEC 47 victors Leonard Garcia, George Roop, Anthony Pettis and Joseph Benavidez received an additional $10K bonus to their purses for superb performances at the event.
Benavidez’ lopsided win over the heavily-favored Miguel Torres for his chokeout of the struggling Chicago fighter.
Leonard Garcia and George Roop’s toe-to-toe slugfest earned the “Fight of the Night” Bonus for the pair, as Anthony Pettis received the “Knockout of the Night” Award after wiping Danny Castillo clean with a powerful head kick in the first round of their televised prelim bout.
World Extreme Cagefighting returns with WEC 48: Faber vs Aldo, which will be the promotion’s PPV debut.
The fight card will feature some big WEC stars in Donald Cerrone, Mike Brown, Ben Henderson and Jamie Varner. The event will take place on April 24, at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California.
