Brian Bowles Vs. Wagnney Fabiano On Tap For WEC 52

    Source: MMAJunkie

MMAJunkie.com is reporting that former WEC Bantamweight Champion Brian Bowles could make his return to action against former featherweight Wagnney Fabiano and that the two will likely square off at the upcoming WEC 52 event. According to MMAJunkie, both fighters have verbally agreed to the bout and are expected to sign bout agreements shortly.

Fighting out of former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin's old gym, The Hardcore Gym in Athens, Georgia, Brian Bowles recently had his eight-fight undefeated streak snapped and his WEC Bantamweight Title taken by current champion Dominick Cruz. Cruz defeated Bowles via TKO (doctor stoppage) in the second round when it was determined that Bowles could no longer continue to fight due to a broken hand. Prior to that engagement, Bowles was 8-0 as a professional fighter and holds notable wins over Marcos Galvao, Damacio Page, and former WEC Bantamweight Champion Miguel Torres.

Brazilian grappling specialist Wagnney Fabiano dropped from featherweight to bantamweight in 2010 after suffering an incredible first round submission loss to newcomer Mackens Semerzier in a featherweight bout. Fabiano debuted at bantamweight against Clint Godfrey at the first of this year at WEC 46: Varner vs. Henderson where he took home a unanimous decision win. He would follow that up with another unanimous decision victory over Frank Gomez, his most recent performance (which went down at WEC 49: Varner vs. Shalorus this past June).

WEC 52 will likely take place this November 11th at The Pearl at the Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada and is expected to feature the rescheduled matchup between former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber and Takeya Mizugaki in addition to the Bowles-Fabiano match up.

Alan Belcher's MMA Future Uncertain; Undergoes Second Surgery For Detached Retina

    Source: Twitter

The future of UFC middleweight fighter Alan "The Talent" Belcher's MMA career is currently in question as he is struggling with a potentially career-ending detached right retina. The 26-year old fighter was forced to pull out of his scheduled headlining UFC Fight Night bout against Demian Maia due to the injury, which required surgery. Belcher has stated that he likely suffered the injury in training and possibly exacerbated it by flying to and from Brazil as a result of the pressure change caused by flying. Belcher's condition doesn't seem to be improving unfortunately; "The Talent's" wife, Ashlee Belcher, recently took to the fighter's Twitter account to reveal that he has had to undergo a second surgery and is in much pain as a result.

"This is alans wife @Ashleebelcher Yesterday his vision was blurry again today heading into another surgery on same eye please keep praying," Mrs. Belcher posted.

Belcher's wife indicated that the successfulness of the second surgery will become evident over the next month, and that "The Talent" is in for some serious discomfort in the meantime.

"We are home He is in a lot of pain though Next few weeks are really important He has to lay face down :( thanks for prayers, @Ashleebelcher."

Belcher is currently 16-6 as a professional fighter and has gone 4-1 in his last five fights with his only loss being a razor-thin split decision defeat to Yoshihiro Akiyama. Belcher holds notable wins over Wilson Gouveia, Denis Kang, Ed Herman, Jorge Santiago and, most recently, Patrick Cote.

If you care to send Belcher "Get Well" wishes, his wife has posted the address to "The Talent's" Mississippi gym.

"Several people have sent me @'s asking where they can send Alan a get well soon card to.gym address is 10322 gorenflo rd diberville ms 39340."

  • Thiago Alves Vs. John Howard Likely For UFC 124 -
Thiago Alves Vs. John Howard Likely For UFC 124

    Source: MMAJunkie

UFC welterweight fighter Thiago "Pitbull" Alves could be making his last appearance as a welterweight in the UFC against John "Doomsday" Howard this December at UFC 124. MMAJunkie.com reported the match up earlier today; apparently both Howard and Alves have verbally agreed to the bout and the bout agreements are expected to be signed soon.

Alves, a product of the Florida-stationed American Top Team gym, recently drew the ire of UFC President Dana White by failing to make weight in his number one contender's bout with Jon Fitch which took place earlier this August at UFC 117. Alves has a history of weight issues and missing the mark against Fitch was the last straw for White, who vowed to make Alves compete at middleweight from now on. Alves pleaded his case, hired a nutritionist specializing in healthy weight control and earned at least one more shot in the UFC's 170lb division. Alves is 17-7 as a professional and is currently 0-2 in his last two outings, losing to UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre and, most recently, to Fitch.

Fighting out of Boston, Massachusetts, John "Doomsday" Howard holds a professional mixed martial arts record of 14-5 and is currently 4-1 in the UFC. His four Octagon victories have come against Chris Wilson (split decision), Tamdan McCrory (split decision), Dennis Hallman (KO) and Daniel Roberts (KO). His most recent outing resulted in his first UFC loss; Howard was deemed unfit to continue on in his UFC Live 2 - Jones vs. Matyushenko bout against Jake Ellenberger due to extreme swelling on his left eye.

UFC 124 is expected to go down this December 11th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and will likely feature a welterweight title fight between UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre and number one contender Josh Koscheck in addition to the Alves-Howard match up.

  • Demian Maia Motivated By Anderson Silva's Presence At UFC 118 -
Demian Maia Motivated By Anderson Silva's Presence At UFC 118

    Source: Tatame

Former UFC middleweight title challenger Demian Maia recently bounced back from his embarrassing UFC 112 title fight against champion Anderson Silva by defeating one of Silva's pupils via unanimous decision this past weekend at UFC 118. Maia dominated his opponent and, though he was unable to finish his fellow Brazilian via his vaunted ground game, was in control for most every moment of the fight. Maia spoke with Brazilian MMA news source Tatame.com and revealed that the presence of Silva, who toyed with him in their UFC 112 meeting, in Miranda's corner was a big motivating factor for him to win.

"Of course it did," Maia said when asked if Silva cornering Miranda motivated him to perform well. "I was glad when I knew he'd be on his corner because I knew it'd motivate me even more. With all due respect to Mário, but I was glad when I heard that Anderson would be on his corner because I knew I'd motivate me even more."

Maia is certainly a top-tier middleweight fighter but is under no illusions that he is close to getting another crack at the title, citing UFC President Dana White's post-fight comments and the current line of middleweight contenders as reasons for his belief.

"Man, on the press conference what Dana said, when he was asked about what he thinks [would] be the next step for me, that he still doesn't know because the division is too busy," said Maia. "There's Anderson's fight with Chael (Sonnen), there's Vitor (Belfort) who should get a title fight, there're lots of athletes that are on the front line, so it's one of the busiest divisions now."

Maia is currently 2-2 in his last four fights, staggering losses to Nate Marquardt and Silva with victories over Dan Miller and Mario Miranda. His overall record as a professional mixed martial artist is 13-2.

UFC 118: Edgar vs. Penn II went down on August 28th at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.
