Koscheck Scores Big UFC 106 Fight Night Bonuses
- Posted by Whitey Hudson on November 22nd, 2009
Josh Koscheck, Anthony Johnson and main-card fighter Antonio Rogerio Nogueira each cashed checks for $70,000 fight-night bonuses for their performances at Saturday’s UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin II.
Koscheck earned the Submission of the Night bonus, Nogueira earned the Knockout of the Night award, and Koscheck and Johnson both earned Fight of the Night honors in a bout which saw the momentum seesaw between the two heavy-handed strikers.
Koscheck was the big winner on the night with two awards for $140,000.
Koscheck earned the night’s submission and fight of the night bonuses for his second-round submission win over Johnson.
During an ugly affair which featured what appeared to be an illegal knee from Johnson and accidental eye pokes from both fighters, Koscheck took over the fight in the second round and scored the takedown which led to the rear-naked choke which ended the contest.
The headline bou between Forrest Griffin and Tito Ortiz could have gone either way, but we had Griffin ahead all the way.
Griffin clearly dominated the third round and closed out the split-decision win via scores of 29-28, 30-27 and 28-29.
Little Nog Nogueira, in his first fight for the UFC, earned the night’s knockout bonus for his dramatic first-round stoppage of 205-pound contender Luiz Cane.
Nogueira consistently scored with his left and hurtCane. A straight left sent Cane to the mat for good just two minutes into round one.
It was Nogueira’s fifth win via knockout in his last seven wins.
