Herschel Walker Signs With Strikeforce
Herschel Walker is starting a new career in mixed martial arts.
Walker, now 47 and a former NFL running back, said Monday that he has signed a multi-fight contract with promoter Strikeforce. Walker was on hand in the crowd at Strikeforce:Carano vs. Cyborg and said then that he planned to consider fighting.
Walker won college football’s Heisman Trophy in 1982.
Walker says he’ll start a 12-week training camp next month in San Jose, California in preparation for his new career.
The 1982 Heisman Trophy winner has a fifth-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
Walker said he’ll train with American Kickboxing Academy, the San Jose, California team that includes Josh Koscheck, Mike Swick, Jon Fitch, Cain Velasquez and Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson.
At Walker’s age, he should probably think about steering clear of his wings for the next three months, but if anyone can do it at age 47, Walker is an excellent candidate…
