UFC PPV Numbers Solid, But Will They Stay That Way?

UFC 100 sold over 1.7 million PPV units, UFC 101 PPV numbers were pretty darn impressive as well.

ufc 102 poster Will UFC 102 Keep the MMA Momentum Going? The Lesnar fight (and the UFC 100 milestone) obviously provided an easy hook to promote that card, and any card which includes Anderson Silva is sure to pull in the eyeballs, but I was surprised nonetheless at how well UFC 101 did.

Was it just a carryover from the UFC 100 hype?

I was one of the buyers for UFC 101, and while I thought there were some good fights, it made me wonder what kind of numbers UFC 102 is likely to do this Saturday.

If the growing curve is any indication – and you surely can’t count out the appeal of UFC legend Randy Couture – then the fight should do well on PPV even if ticket sales for the live event aren’t all that impressive.

The Last Ten UFC PPV Show Buys:

  • UFC 91: Couture vs. Lesnar – 900,000
  • UFC 92: Ultimate 2008 – 1,000,000
  • UFC 93: 350,000
  • UFC 94: St-Pierre vs. Penn 2 – 800,000
  • UFC 96: Jackson vs Jardine – 375,000
  • UFC 97: Liddell vs Shogun – 650,000
  • UFC 98: Evans vs Machida – 635,000
  • UFC 99: Franklin vs. Silva – 350,000
  • UFC 100: Lesnar vs. Mir II – 1,720,000
  • UFC 101: Penn vs. Florian – 1,100,000

With no titles on the line, you have think this card will be swimming hard upstream to reach 600,000 PPV buys.  Again, I’ll be one of them, but I’m a hardcore fan.

Where’s Fedor when you need him?

Oh, that’s right, he’ll be fighting in October or November for Strikeforce.
