Now He’s Expected to Fight Without Being Paid

Kazuo Misaki gets to fight but he won’t get paid.

The Japanese are a different sort when it comes to honor, and World Victory Road director Takahiro Kokuho said today that Sengoku’s Aug. 2 Ninth Battle card at the Saitama Super Arena will include a bout between Misaki and Kazuhiro Nakamura.

apology sengoku 300x207 Kazuo Misakis Apology Apparently Not EnoughOdd as this sounds, Misaki will not receive his fight purse and faces an indefinite suspension from Sengoku competition for his trouble – immediately after the fight.

Misaki had pled guilty in the Tokyo District Court to obstruction of justice on June 25 for speeding away from a police officer who had attempted to cite him for talking on his cell phone while driving. The fighter got a three-year suspended sentence following the plea.

“Some felt that that we should make the suspension immediate,” Kokuho said. “However, it is not our intention to punish the other parties concerned.  His opponent and the fans looking forward to this fight.”

Misaki’s end of the purse will be donated to Japan Foundation for AIDS Prevention and other charities.

“It is not about whether Misaki wins or loses,” concluded Kokuho, “But showing a great performance and making those who see the fight into voices for his return.”

Misaki sounded contrite during his apology, but Im with him on something else he had to say about the incident.

“I wanted to get to training quickly, and at the time, I didn’t think talking on a cell phone was so serious,” he opined.
