UFC welterweight Anthony Johnson was arrested on June 27 on multiple charges relating to an alleged domestic violence incident.

Though he was arrested on felony charges, the District Attorney filed misdemeanor charges, each of which is punishable by up to a year in the county jail and an undisclosed fine.

Fighters seem particularly prone to incidents involving cell phones lately. Maybe if they still made them like the one in the photo here, the coppers wouldn’t recognize them as such and fighters could avoid additional charges.

It amazes me that “damaging a cell phone” is even against the law…

Kazuo Misaki had pled guilty in the Tokyo District Court to obstruction of justice on June 25 for speeding away from a police officer who had attempted to cite him for talking on his cell phone while driving. The fighter got a three-year suspended sentence following the plea.

The most recent cell-phone incident took place at 10:49am, and Johnson contacted police on his own before being arrested at 1:30pm that afternoon. Authorities said he was very cooperative and polite.

Based on the charges, Johnson allegedly struck his ex-girlfriend during the incident and damaged a cell phone so that she was unable to contact police.

Johnson, who was bailed out by a bonding agency, is next scheduled to appear in court for a pretrial hearing on July 17th.
