Total Fight Challenge Saturday in Hammond

The Total Fight Challenge has my interest, but those guys are impossible to get in touch with, but I have to see what it’s all about anyway.

I’m more interested in the stories of the men who train and fight their way up through the ranks of MMA, and the guys who fight in promotions like TFC like violent, dangerous monks in their dedication to an underground craft. They live with each other for company and train against their past and future opponents, sharing the secrets of the game.

TFC, located in Hammond, IN, was the launching point for a lot of good fighters and I’m hitting the road to check them out. They have a card coming up on May 30, and you can bet I’ll be ringside to catch the action. I’m hoping to get there early and take a little time to get to know the guys and their seconds.

This professional Mixed Martial Arts event is founded and promoted by Joe Goytia. Joe has been in and around combat sports and freestyle fighting events since its inception. Joe had started promoting MMA events in 1998 with the JKD Challenge which hosted future UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Hughes first fight in mixed martial arts. After years of making the best fights happen in Chicago, Joe created the Total Fight Challenge in 2004 and set its home in Hammond, Indiana. Now after six years promoting events in Indiana Joe Goytia brings the Total Fight Challenge into Chicago.

We’re planning to head to the fights, and I think it sounds like it should be an excellent card. They feature UFC veteran Keith Wisniewski, so you should see some real class acts.

Miguel Angel Torres got his start fighting in the TFC, if that gives you any idea of the quality you can expect…
