Cheick Kongo on the card for UFC 99
Kongo Steps in for Herring
After Heath Herring pulled out of UFC 99 because of an undisclosed illness, Cheick Kongo is set to take over for Herring and fight Cain Velasquez in the co-main event.
Kongo vs. Velasquez and Mirko Cro Cop vs. Mostapha Al-Turk make this card packed with what should prove to be excellent heavyweight fights.
The Frenchman, Kongo, whose stock is on the rise after his recent performances in the UFC, would likely move himself into contention for another heavyweight title shot if he can pull off a win.
UFC 99 is slated for June 13 in Cologne, Germany. The main event at UFC 99 – Rich Franklin vs. Wanderlei Silva – should be a crowd pleaser. Franklin and Silva both have something to prove, and that should make it an action-packed card.
