Arlovski on Strikforce Card for June
Strikeforce Adds Heavyweight Names for June 6
Strikeforce threw fans a curveball when it bumped Strikeforce Heavyweight division champion Alistair Overeem in favor of the form UFC champion, Andrei Arlovski for the June 6 card.
Brett Rogers (9-0) takes on the former UFC champion and Affliction attraction Andrei Arlovski (15-6) in the night’s main card. The fight will air live on Showtime.
The Scottrade Center plays host to a main event between former EliteXC middleweight champ Robbie Lawler and former EliteXC welterweight champion Jake Shields. The two will fight a catch-weight battle at 182 pounds.
Arlovski is 5-1 in his last six fights – those wins included three straight victories in the UFC – before he for Affliction.
Arlovski was set to make his debut in professional boxing on June 27, but it’s now unlikely he’ll keep that commitment so close to the fight with Rogers.
It’s possible that this might spell the end of Overeem’s stint with Strikeforce.
Overeem was expecting the Arlovski fight, and now that he’s out, you have to wonder what’s up next for the Dutchman.
“At the time there were some interesting fights lined up for me in Japan with DREAM,” Overeem said when the Strikeforce card was initially announced. “At the moment I’m really happy with Strikeforce and my DREAM contract, but I don’t have a crystal ball.”
