Dana White’s Tirade Most Uncouth
- Posted by W.C. Pikey on April 3rd, 2009
It is most unfortunate when a man’s emotions overtake his ability to express them without using language most foul.
UFC president Dana White, it appears, may be a bit of a mullion.
For shame and tut tut, Mr White. You should be flogged in the public square for your outrageous violation of the public mores. To treat a woman with such cavalier disregard is the mark of a bounder and cad.
When White launched into a tirade against mixed martial arts correspondent Loretta Hunt, he failed to consider that such a tirade could undermine his until now excellent handling of the media. Without consideration for the ramifications of his ill considered and misogynistic outburst, Mr. White will have some serious explaining to do.
Back in the days when I was a cub reporter for the Tipperary Vindicator newspaper, my initial forays into the assizes court brought me squarely into contact with a group of people who were more than willing to express themselves in ways which would make my dear mother blush. Granted, these are different times and what is considered acceptable in public discourse is given considerably more latitude. Even with that wide-ranging tolerance for a certain amount of “blue” language, White’s mad outburst did little to advance his cause.
The fact that his vitriol was directed at a member of the fairer sex, simply adds to the degree of his current difficulties.
Most unacceptable.
In addition to his rather unfortunate comments about Ms. Hunt, White also took the opportunity to offend several other segments of the population as well.
White is well known to be protective and honestly concerned with the welfare of his coworkers, fighters, and trainers within the UFC. But the idea that he would jeopardize his reputation with his ill considered remarks is hardly uncharacteristic of his past history. He is clearly an emotional man, and those sorts of emotions can boil over and make a horrific mess in the scullery.
The usual list of organizations dedicated to protecting the safety of their various constituents quickly came out in force to answer White’s charges. They demanded that he issue apologies – both for his language and it’s intent. In this era of instant communications, it is possible for any member of the public to quickly post a “video” to what they call a “YouTube.” The resultant “video” which may or may not have been recorded at all if its creator took more time to consider the impact of that post can then quickly be revealed as erratum.
Let’s hope in the future Mr. White finds a reasonable foil through which to filter his ideas.
For what it’s worth, White quickly apologized. The real issue is perhaps whether the apology came from the heart in the same way as the tirade.
As I have adjudged many a time in the past; the pen remains mightier than the sword.
Tussling with members of the media is rarely a winning proposition, and I believe Mr. White will soon feel he has been boxed roundly about the ears in a metaphorical sense.
Indeed, were it within my purview, he should immediately be subjected to a treatment with the bastinado. And were I younger, more vigorous and less dipsomanic, I would volunteer to take up the cudgel and give it him post-haste.
