kimbo slice 02 2 Kimbo Slice to Enter the Boxing RingThe phenomenal interest generated by street fighter turned MMA champ, Kimbo Slice, came to a swift halt after his having lost to Seth Petruzelli in just 14 seconds.

While some still argue that the fight was fixed or that it was called too early, there is no denying that Slice’s career began to fizzle. It is for this reason that Slice is reportedly looking into a boxing career.

His career began as a street fighting internet sensation, pulverizing every opponent that was willing to fight him. But after his launch in MMA, Kimbo was described as a one-dimensional fighter –- “Given the opportunity to stand in the ring he’s unstoppable,” said one fan, “but he can’t hold his ground when it comes to submission fighters.”

A newspaper report now says that Slice, known outside of MMA as Kevin Ferguson, will finish his contract which requires two more fights before switching to a boxing career, a style of fighting that certainly suits him better. Slice signed with EliteXC in 2007, but was later sold to Strikeforce in February of this year.

“The last two fights that I have left in MMA don’t have set dates. Everything normally gets set up six to eight weeks prior to the fight,” said Slice. “Nearer to that point I would be told the particulars like who my opponent is and where the fight would be. With boxing, you can have a fight on Monday and if you are well you can have another fight the following week. Before the month is out, you would have already fought on several cards. In MMA, whether you are well or not, there is a six week waiting period before you can engage in any other battle.”

Slice’s career with EliteXC resulted in a 3-1 record, with two knockdowns and one submission. He has yet to fight another match since his infamous encounter with Petruzelli. He notes, “Boxing is really my first desire. I have a lot of love for it and believe I can do pretty well. MMA is somewhat of a project for me. Boxing is one dimensional while there are a lot of dimensions in MMA. I don’t think it would be a hard transition from MMA to stand-up boxing because of my fighting style.”

i agree hes too old to be a professional mma champ. i can see him being a butterbean in boxing put a schlub in there n see a big ko. i think if he were 16 to 18 he d be worth the time. but if he can make money on rep do it cause that window is closing, hes on the last minute of the 15 min mark. what do you think of lesner. i think with his wrestling background, and power. he’s got potential. but mir is a scary matchup for him if he makes a mistake mir will win again. i think both guys are bad ash.

I personally think kimbo needs to get another kind of a job.He is over rated and has no ability or smarts to learn.Yes he is powerful, but thats it.I would hate to see this man get hurt. But if he stays in fighting, he needs to change his personality. He comes off as a big dummy show off and no one will respect him.
