While Shamrock should have his arms tied in training for his upcoming Strikeforce cage event, he has spent a good portion of his time lately seeking a crew of deserving young MMA fighters to participate in a reality show project.

Perhaps the show is a means of inviting upcoming fighters into fame, but it seems a rather hammy publicity stunt. On March 21st, Shamrock will hold tryouts for his project which he promises will make young fighters overnight sensations.

“March 21 we’ve got a massive tryout coming up,” said Shamrock. “We’ve got guys coming in from all over the world. We’re also filming it and producing a reality show in conjunction with it.”

The winner of the tryouts will receive a chance to train with the former UFC and Strikeout champion, as well as their 15 minutes of fame in his reality show. He will get “an opportunity to become a superstar through Strikeforce and our distribution partner,” according to Shamrock. “With the opportunities with Strikeforce and with the new opportunities in the industry, it’s a big opportunity for a young star to become a superstar literally overnight.”

Shamrock goes on to say that mixed martial arts is not about fighting, but about the “extraordinary lifestyle” and that his reality show will give viewers the opportunity to see the thrilling adventures of MMA stars when not in the ring.

“Fights don’t mean anything,” he said. “You can’t lock eight guys in a house and have it mean something. It’s been done. It’s boring.”

I disagree. I never tire of a good fight. That’s why I watch MMA fights and UFC…and not Hogan Knows Best. Shame on you, Shamrock, for selling out an already struggling industry.
